Jerylin Virden: Lowfire Glazes

This course will offer many ideas to develop interesting low-fire surfaces. It will include a general overview of low-fire glaze chemistry and formulation. Many glaze and slip recipes will be offered and tested to discover unique surfaces. Students will learn strategies for glazing sculpture such as multi-layering and re-firing in order to expand on the possibilities of a fired finish. Participants can expect to leave with a number of tested glaze recipes and tiles to bring home and apply to their work along with many other resources for successful surfaces. ALL LEVELS WELCOME.

Jerylin Virden received an MFA from Southern Methodist University before completing a 3 year residency at Penland School of Crafts. She is the recipient of a North Carolina Fellowship Award and her work is in the permanent collection of NCECA.
